Rotation Model
In the rotation model, students rotate within a given course at the teachers discretion or on a schedule between different learning stations, one of which is online learning. As mentioned previously, other stations could include collaboration or individual learning and teacher led learning.
In their fourth paper on K-12 blended learning, The Clayton Christensen Institute analyzed blended learning "through the lens of disruptive innovation theory to help people anticipate and plan for the likely effects of blended learning on the classrooms of today and schools of tomorrow" (p.1). In this paper, they break down the rotation model into three different models of blended learning in what they refer to as the Hybrid Zone (p. 27-30). The hybrid zone can simply be understood as a gateway to online learning. It is primarily where elementary schools will stay opposed to middle and high schools, which will progress towards a more online learning environment or what is called disruptive models of blended learning. Read the article for a more in-depth explanation of disruptive models.

Three models in the hybrid zone of blended learning
- Station Rotation- Students rotate between stations within the classroom. Stations in the classroom could be independent or collaborative learning, teacher led instruction and online instruction.
- Lab Rotation- Students rotate between their traditional classroom instruction and a computer/learning lab.
- Flipped Classroom- Generally in a flipped classroom, the instruction is given at home online, and then applied learning or homework happens in school face to face with the instructor. Below is a short video explaining the flipped classroom provided by MediaCore.
